Today saw Farnham send 10 girls to represent Surrey v Kent and we were still able to field a 17 player strong squad. A combined Trojans and Havant team were the oppo as they had players out representing their counties also, but are fortunate to have good numbers too.
You would have been forgiven for thinking Farnham had not sent any players to Surrey as that was the quality on show today. Forwards did an amazing job with the initial wet conditions. Taking the first five minutes to organise themselves and figure out the conditions. After repelling an early onslaught from Trojans and conceding several offside penalties Farnham finally took possession of the ball and from that moment did not look back.
Monstrous carries from all of the pack helped us gain a stronghold in the game and we never looked under pressure from that point. We were fortunate to play most of the match in Trojans half and the pressure told with regular scores. The first half ended with a 5-25 lead with trys from Ellie B, Amelie Moran, Lola and a brace from Hooker Evie.
By the second half the conditions had improved and Farnham started to move the ball through the hands with confidence. With girls playing out of usual positions the ball did not make it out to the wing often in the first half, but with the confidence came a belief and some sublime carries and passes just before the tackle saw some incredible rugby with an unbelievable desire to add to the score. 6 second half trys added to the score shared 50:50 between forwards and backs. The trys came from Lara (11), Phoebe (10), Emma (7), and Ellie Brooker got her second of the game.
The best was still to come.... For those that know Paul Brooker his comment to me of 'its nearly the end isn't it as I won't hear the end of it if Ellie gets another'.... well you know what is coming :). After a sustained period of pressure Trojans held the Farnham up over the try line. Ellie awake to the situation charged down the goal line drop out, catching it and smashing straight over for her hat-trick.
Difficult to give special mentions today as every single one of the girls stepped up, we saw a fabulous full team performance which could not have made the coaches and parents more proud. Well done all!!
