This weekend saw the Falcons hit the road in the midst of Storm Ashley down to Portsmouth. Though the wind and the rain hampered the ground, it certainly didn't diminish the Falcons spirit. A fixture long awaited for, the Falcons were geared up for a competitive game and Portsmouth Valkyries responded accordingly.

The first 15 mins of the game saw the Falcons push back the Valkyries to their try line, ending in them having to do a goal line drop out to get some metres up the pitch. The Falcons kept up the pressure and both sides gave it their all in one of the most physical games they've ever played, with Portsmouth demonstrating their strong runners and leg drives. Still, the Falcons drew on their strengths and did not falter in defence, keen to press up and meet the physicality with sheer determination. The tackles from both teams were hard hitting, spectacular and worthy of mention!

A great display of team support and handling saw the Falcons put the pressure on a surprised opposition, lineouts being a particular set piece highlight with the training efforts really paying off in gameplay. Half time approached with the teams level at 14-14, showing the graft of each team. Ultimately, the win alluded the Falcons with a couple of late tries from the Valkyries, with the wind playing havoc with conversions. The game eventually settling on 26-14.

Some incredibly try-lights worth mentioning for both teams, however our particular favourite was centre Katie G with an awesome interception which saw her grease the wheels and sprint over 50m to get the try.

Now the Falcons have some time to get back to training, tighten some bolts but ultimately have some fun whilst there's a break before the next fixture. The league having only just begun, NC1 is all to play for!
